Introduction

This activity will help you to define plagiarism and learn how to avoid plagiarizing when doing  a written or multimedia report. This activity will help you to learn strategies to avoid plagiarizing.

Task

Your final product will be a written 1-2 page oral report or a 3 minute PowerPoint presentation on the topic "The  Cost of Plagiarism and How to Avoid Plagiarizing."  Your report or presentation must include a bibliography/webliography.

Process

First, you'll define plagiarism. Go to this site
After writing the definition, list  four actions that might be considered plagiarizing.  Also, list four strategies to help you to avoid plagiarizing.

Read the information on Internet Fair Use and Copyright Law for electronic media at this site
Summarize the information on the General Guidelines and the Internet.
After analyzing and listing the information, use those notes to write your report or presentation.
Finally, list all the sources you used to write your report using the MLA style to cite and document your resources.  Use this site.

Conclusion

When you have completed this activity, you will understand the importance of documenting and citing the sources you use to write reports or create multimedia presentations.  In the future, you can rely on the strategies you learned to help you avoid plagiarizing.   You can find additional information on this topic at this site.
