Nureena Faruqi has worked for eight years in the education and nonprofit sector. She first became interested in this work through her role as an AmeriCorps member in 2010 in Asheville, North Carolina which placed her in afterschool programs and schools in the Buncombe County area. Since then, Nureena has taken on a variety of roles in the education and nonprofit sector as a teaching artist, educator, coordinator and manager. Her interests center around accessibility, the arts and disability justice. In her current role as NC LiteracyCorps Program Director at SCALE, Nureena is able to bridge all these experiences and interests into one. SCALE’s mission of literacy as a fundamental human right is a mission she strives to embody daily.
