The School of Education launched its third year of its “Recharge and Reconnect” sessions, a series of get-togethers of recent graduates to share – and to learn from – each others’ classroom experiences.
The “Recharge and Reconnect” sessions are for teachers with one to five years of teaching experience, and are designed to help participants identify ways to address issues they have encountered in their work.
Twenty-eight alumni attended this year’s first session on Nov. 19, held at the Carolina Center for Educational Excellence in Chapel Hill. Dean Bill McDiarmid welcomed the group, followed by presentations by Associate Professor Jocelyn Glazier and Associate Professor of Early Childhood Intervention and Family Support Harriet Able. Also speaking were two returning participants from the past two years of the program who described how the sessions have affected their own practice.
The participants broke into four grade-level groups – early childhood/early elementary, upper elementary, middle grades, and secondary – and discussed case studies that had been sent to them in advance of the session. Following lunch, participants shared their own dilemmas of practice and problem-solved together.
