LEARN NC, an outreach program of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education, has published its 2012 online election guide – including information about national, state, and local elections – to help teachers bring the 2012 elections into the classroom.
“Navigating the complexity of a presidential election is difficult work for students of any age,” said Andy Mink, LEARN NC’s executive director. “The LEARN NC Election Guide streamlines this process for teachers and students so that they can make one stop to consider and analyze key issues, positions, and candidacies. This resource will be invaluable in the coming weeks leading up to the November election – and remain a relevant teaching tool well after the votes have been cast.”
The guide provides an extensive list of online resources describing candidates and parties, campaign issues, and election law. Lesson plans and activities address topics such as satire, propaganda, the use of statistics, and the constitutional foundations of the electoral process.
