LEARN NC publishes guide to mathematics Common Core State Standards

LEARN NC, an outreach program of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Education, has published a guide for elementary school teachers, administrators, and parents to help them navigate the implementation of the new Common Core State Standards for Mathematics. These standards are being used for instruction and assessment in North Carolina’s public schools this school year for the first time.

“As teachers across North Carolina work to implement the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, it is important they have access to a variety of materials that assist them in understanding, interpreting and implementing the Standards, from videos to articles to documents,” said Kay Ringer, a doctoral candidate in the School of Education and author of the guide. “This site brings together a variety of resources in a single location, serving as a one-stop portal meant to meet the various needs of teachers during this implementation process.”

The guide explains key components of the Standards, identifies professional development opportunities for teachers working with the Standards, and supports parents in helping their children meet the Standards.

The guide is available at http://www.learnnc.org/lp/editions/math-CCSS-resources.
