MAT program graduates are prepared to make an immediate impact — in their classrooms, schools, and communities — even within their first year of teaching. With experience gained through structured coursework and an intensive, two-semester student teaching internship, our graduates enter the classroom equipped to meet complex and strengthen the communities in which they work.
Our graduates often go on to become not only outstanding teachers but also award-winning professionals shaping the future of education — earning honors such as Beginning Teacher of the Year and advancing into leadership roles within their schools and communities. Recent studies show that Carolina-prepared beginning teachers — those with three or fewer years of experience — help students meet or exceed expected growth at rates higher than other beginning teachers across the state.
As part of the UNC School of Education and the broader UNC-Chapel Hill community, our students benefit from a strong network of dedicated alumni, personalized career services, and the professional resources of one of the nation’s top public universities — supporting their growth and success long after graduation.
