Background
Robert Plumley works at the intersection of technology and education with a focus on learning analytics. He began his career in the technology sector, leading business intelligence and data infrastructure projects for fast-growing Software-as-a-Service providers. He now brings that technical experience into education, building data systems and collaborating with instructors and researchers to study learner engagement and improve educational outcomes.
Research
Robert investigates how data from digital learning environments can be used to understand and support students’ learning. His work explores self-regulated learning and motivation across multiple educational settings, using digital trace data to identify when learners may need assistance and deploying targeted supports. By combining learning analytics and machine learning methods, he develops approaches to deepen insights into student engagement and predict academic success
