School of Education alumnus Moyer Smith (A.B.Ed. ’61, M.Ed. ’65), former president of the UNC Educational Foundation, has been chosen to be inducted into the N.C. High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
Smith played football at Lexington High School, going to the Shrine Bowl before he attended Carolina, where he played both football and ran track.
Smith served as head football coach at Lexington and Albemarle before becoming an assistant coach at Florida State and then Carolina. At UNC, he also worked as an associate athletic director before joining the Educational Foundation, also known as the Rams Club.
He was inducted into the Davidson County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010 and was the first to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Athletic Development Directors.
Smith serves on the School of Education Foundation board.
The induction ceremony is planned for the spring.
