Alumna Zoe Locklear (M.Ed. ’79, Ph.D. ’89) named provost at UNC-Pembroke

Zoe Woodell Locklear (M.Ed. ’79, Ph.D. ’89) has been named provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Locklear had served as interim provost since April.

Locklear has worked for more than 30 years in education, previously serving as dean of UNC-Pembroke’s School of Education. She has also served on the North Carolina State Board of Education and as an associate superintendent for the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.

She has served on the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Education’s Alumni Council.

Locklear served as the first dean of UNC-Pembroke’s School of Education, leading it to achieve an “exemplary” rating from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.
