Alumni Awards dinner, symposium planned for Nov. 16

The School of Education will host its annual Alumni Awards dinner in conjunction with a daylong research symposium exploring the topic “Education for a New Era” on Nov. 16.

The Alumni Awards event will honor four alumni, and James Gallagher, senior scientist emeritus and former director of the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, will be given the Peabody Award, the School’s highest honor.

Alumni receiving awards:

  • John Claude Bemis (A.B.Ed. ’95, M.A.T. ’03) will receive the Excellence in Teaching Award.
  • Frank Comfort (M.A.T. ’69) will receive the Distinguished Leadership Award.
  • Ben Matthews (A.B. ’71, Ph.D. ’84) and Iris Weiss (Ph.D. ’75) will each receive the Alumni Achievement Award.

The symposium will feature School of Education faculty leading discussions exploring hot topics in education.

The symposium and the Alumni Awards dinner will be held in the Carolina Inn.
