Background

As an undergraduate student at Carolina, Heather Bucurel’s passion for education developed through her collaboration with prospective and enrolled students in campus tours, orientation sessions, and residential life. Having grown up and spent time learning in a variety of locales around the world, she welcomed the opportunity to teach English in South Korea after graduation from Carolina. This experience fueled her interest in working with emergent bilinguals and English language learners.

Upon returning to North Carolina, Heather served with NC Literacy Corps in support of adult and youth education. She earned her MAT in ESL in 2015 and went on to facilitate instruction and educational capacity building as a classroom teacher, program coordinator, and most recently, director of education.
