Black Alumni Reunion planned for Oct. 28-29

The School of Education is hosting a Black Alumni Reunion on Homecoming weekend, Oct. 28-29. The event will include opportunities to mingle with fellow alumni and to hear remarks from Dean Bill McDiarmid. Also, the School of Education’s Black Alumni Committee will present its second Impact Award.

The activities begin with a reception for Black alumni, guests and friends at the Sonja Haynes Stone Center on Friday, Oct. 28, at 6:30 p.m. where McDiarmid will speak and the Impact Award will be presented.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, Black alumni are invited to a planning session at Peabody Hall to discuss how to sustain the Black Alumni Reunion as an annual event, as well as how to cultivate relationships such as mentoring, scholarships for Black/African-American students in education, nominating alumni for alumni awards and professional development opportunities. The time for this meeting will be determined after the UNC-Wake Forest football game time has been confirmed.

There is no cost to attend the reception or the planning session. But those planning to attend are asked to RSVP by Oct. 20 by emailing Laurie Norman at laurie_norman@unc.edu or by calling her at (919) 843-6979.
