Dhedra Lassiter (A.B.Ed. ’89), principal at Rolesville Middle School, has been named the 2014-15 Principal of the Year in Wake County.

Lassiter began her career in education in 1993 as a teacher at Wake Forest-Rolesville Middle School, then worked in the county system office in human resources before becoming assistant principal and then principal at Heritage Middle School.

She was named to be the first principal at Rolesville Middle School when it opened in 2012.

Pam Fiely, who teaches at Rolesville Middle School, was quoted by The News & Observer of Raleigh praising Lassiter’s work and leadership.

“Everything she does is always about getting the best for the kids,” Fiely said.

Lassiter told the newspaper that she is proud of the work she has done to build a community around the school. She cited as highlights of the school’s first three years as being the school’s biotechnology program, teachers’ embrace of technology and efforts to build a positive school culture.

But she says there’s more yet to do.

“I feel good about where we are, but I know we have to continue to weave the web even tighter,” she told the newspaper.
