Admission Requirements
We welcome experienced applicants from diverse backgrounds who are deeply committed to educational innovation and leveraging emerging technologies for social good. A bachelor’s degree or international equivalent from an accredited institution and a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 are required.
Successful candidates typically demonstrate strong school-based experience, academic readiness, and a clear commitment to the collaborative, immersive nature of the MEITE program.
Admissions are offered on a rolling basis, with decisions communicated within seven weeks of a completed application. Students may begin in the fall or spring semester; however, the final project must be completed during the summer session.
Applicants are encouraged to monitor their application status regularly to ensure all materials are received.

Application Process
To apply to the MEITE program, you must submit the following materials:
- School of Education Online Application
- Unofficial transcripts from all postsecondary institutions
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is expected. If below 3.0, please address this in your Statement of Purpose.
- Official transcripts will be required upon admission.
- Contact information for three individuals who can serve as references, including current or former supervisors, professors, or other individuals who can speak to your academic potential, interpersonal skills, and professional experience.
- Please note that these individuals will receive a request to electronically submit a letter of recommendation.
- At least one of the people should be someone qualified to assess your academic ability.
- Statement of purpose (approximately 500 words) explaining your interest in the MEITE program and how it aligns with your personal and professional goals. Please address the following:
- Where do you envision yourself going after the program?
- How will the MEITE program support you in meeting your professional goals?
- What is your experience with innovation, learning technologies and/or entrepreneurship?
- Video Essay
The video essay provides a valuable means of assessing the applicant’s preparedness for these learning experiences by demonstrating their ability to engage in meaningful intellectual discussions.- Preparation
- Please read the following article before starting the video essay portion of the application. The MEITE program is grounded in Design Thinking, an iterative methodology for addressing complex societal problems. For this video response, please read the abstract and introduction from Panke’s (2019) article titled “Design Thinking in Education: Perspectives, Opportunities and Challenges.”
- Please note that you will have 5 minutes to prepare your answer to the prompt and must respond within 3 minutes. While you’re not required to use the whole time, we recommend giving yourself enough time to answer thoroughly. We strongly advise you to read the article now so you can use the 5 minutes to prepare your response, rather than reading the article during the preparation time, as you should do that before entering the video essay. - This is not required as part of the application to the MEITE program. If you choose to submit a GRE score, it needs to be from the last five years and the codes for submitting are UNC GRE Code: #5816 and GMAT Code: D40-HL-34.
