
In addition to the required internship experience, students in the HDFS program have opportunities to interact with a variety of professionals, often aligned with their professional aspirations. They participate in faculty-planned programming that connects them with a powerful network of School of Education alumni who can help support their transition into a meaningful, long-term career.

Carolina Student Council on Family Relations
The Carolina Student Council on Family Relations (CSCFR) is a registered student-led organization that conducts community service, fundraises, and plans events for area children, youth, and families. Through CSCFR, students can network, participate in governance, and engage in community volunteering.
Sources of Strength
Sources of Strength (SOS) is a strength-based mental health organization which features weekly meetings that have different themes of wellness. Students in SOS will have opportunities to develop and implement their own wellness initiatives.
Undergraduate Advisory Council
The Undergraduate Advisory Council (UAC), which joins selected student leaders across the School of Education to serve as School ambassadors in relation to recruitment, campus programs/events, as well as community service. UAC members engage with key stakeholders, as well as meaningfully supporting current and potential future undergraduate students in the school.
Pi Theta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP)
The Pi Theta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) is an international honor society for education. HDFS students can apply to KDP at any point throughout the year. The chapter’s mission is to inspire members to make a positive impact on society through their dedication to educational excellence and service to others.
Interprofessional Education and Practice Distinguished Scholars Program
The Interprofessional Education and Practice Distinguished Scholars Program (IPEP DS), recognizes undergraduate and graduate and professional students excelling in interprofessional education as they are challenged to transform the future of health and human services. HDFS students can earn distinction by engaging in activities through the SOE IPEP group and director.
Striving Toward Educational Prosperity (STEP)
Striving Toward Educational Prosperity (STEP) exposes nearly 1,000 Title I elementary and middle school students from the state of North Carolina to the value of a bachelor’s degree through campus visits including volunteer-led campus tours and introductions to campus affinity groups.
