Accreditation is quality assurance through external peer review to ensure a program meets the standards set by its academic community, professionals, and stakeholders.
The School of Education’s educator preparation programs are accredited by Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) through 2031.

The School’s licensure programs are approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI).

School Psychology
The doctoral program in school psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
Master’s Programs
School Counseling
The master’s program in school counseling is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
School Library Media Coordinators
The master’s program in Library Science includes a licensure option for School Library Media Coordinators and is accredited by the American Library Association’s Committee on Accreditation (COA). This program resides in the UNC School of Information and Library Science.
School Social Work
The master’s program in School Social Work offers licensure for School Social Work and is accredited by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board and the Council on Social Work Education.
Speech & Language Pathology
The master’s program in Speech and Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This program resides in the UNC School of Medicine’s Department of Allied Health Sciences.
Annual Reporting Measures for CAEP
The SOE faculty review program outcome data, both quantitative and qualitative data, annually. Many of the reports faculty utilize for program and continuous improvement efforts are also required for CAEP’s Annual Reporting process, for CAEP Component 5.4.
