Who is Eligible?

High School Students

Once you are accepted as a UNC undergraduate student, if you choose to major in biology, physics, mathematics, geological sciences, or chemistry, you can add secondary teacher licensure through additional coursework through the UNC-BEST program.

Undergraduate & Transfer Students

Pre-MAT & MAT Programs

We offer undergraduate and transfer students the opportunity to complete specified Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) coursework as a Pre-MAT candidate while an undergraduate student. Specific courses totaling 12-credit hours can be taken as an undergraduate student and transferred into the MAT program.

The MAT program then offers licensure to STEM candidates in both Science and Mathematics, grades 6-9 and/ 9-12. Our Special Education MAT Strand licenses candidates in K-12, General Curriculum-Special Education to teach students with mild to moderate disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
