Students majoring in biology, chemistry, geology, physics or mathematics may apply to join the BEST minor after their first semester and up until their senior year.

North Carolina Teaching Fellows at UNC-Chapel Hill

BEST minor students are eligible to apply to be a North Carolina Teaching Fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill. North Carolina Teaching Fellows will receive up to $5,000 a semester in forgivable loans for a commitment to serve as a science, mathematics, or special education teacher in North Carolina.

The most important thing that I have taken away from the BEST Program is the fact that super difficult, abstract science concepts can be made into understandable phenomenon that students can relate to. I also learned about the importance of providing a stimulating classroom environment that pushes students to look for answers on their own.
